Darlington Council, Move More and the Darlington Steam Partner

We have had our first partnership of the year with Darlington borough council during the February half term taking part at multiple locations across the town. We have seen engagement with over 140 kids across a few days throughout this half term and everyone involved seemed to have a blast of a time. We love taking part in this wonderful opportunity it helps with getting the Steam name out there in the local community as well as let us build a bond with the council and help with putting on fun sessions for the kids free of charge. We have gotten some words with people involved with the project:

I’m very happy that we are continuing our partnership with the Move More Team and helping them with the HAF (Holiday and Food) Programme, delivering flag football to the children of Darlington. It’s been great to put our efforts into helping the community.

2023 was our first programme and it went incredibly well. Since starting the Academy, the focus has been to give as many children the opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport as much as possible and this has helped us to achieve that aim

Myself and the other members of the coaching staff have enjoyed the sessions as much as the kids have. We have the Easter programme coming up in April and we will be in attendance at the Move More Day in the Market Square too. Lots going on and long may all of this continue

Darren Mitchell – Head of Development

We are pleased to be working alongside Darlington STEAM for our Easter HAF programme. The coaches promote a safe and welcoming environment for the children and the sessions are fun and engaging. After a successful summer in 2023 programme we are keen to continue the partnership.

Alison Coleman – Move More Officer

I have really enjoyed delivering coaching sessions during the school holidays for Darlington Steam in partnership with Darlington Borough Council. It’s great to be able to help introduce American Football into the local community and to hopefully attract more people from the local area to our sport.

Andy North – Coach/School Liaison

The holiday clubs were great fun, introducing Flag Football to groups of kids from Darlington and seeing them have fun and learning new skills. Getting the word out there that there is an American Football club in Darlington for all ages will certainly help grow the club and the sport for all.

Rob Carey – Coach

If you would like to take part in the sport or if you took part in the councils move more holiday program and enjoyed your American football experience. Then come on down to our training on Saturday between 10-12 at St Aidan’s Academy.

We can’t wait till the next break where we will be helping out some more and making the holidays a bit more fun for all the kids involved.
