Help at the Steam
Building a championship-calibre American Football programme takes more than just athletes on the turf—it takes a dedicated crew behind the scenes. Whether you are a lifelong fan of the gridiron or looking to get involved in a dynamic local sports community, the Darlington Steam have a role for you.
We are currently looking for passionate individuals to join our ranks for the upcoming season. No previous experience with American Football is required for most roles; we value reliability, enthusiasm, and a team-first mentality.
We have the following roles available for both the Adult team and Academy Teams.
Executive Committee
These positions involve making key decisions that direct the club’s long-term strategy and ensuring we remain compliant with British American Football Association (BAFA) regulations.

Treasurer: Responsible for the club’s finances, including budget planning, tracking player subs, and managing equipment grants or sponsorship funds.
Welfare & Safeguarding Officer: A crucial role ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for all members. You will be the point of contact for any concerns regarding player wellbeing and club conduct.
Growth & Sustainability
Focus on building the “Steam” brand and ensuring the club has the resources it needs to compete at the highest level.
Sponsorship & Commercial Manager: Identify and approach local Darlington businesses to secure partnerships, kit sponsors, and gameday advertisers.
Recruitment Officer: Coordinate our rookie taster sessions and community outreach programmes to bring new players and supporters into the fold.
Grants & Funding Coordinator: Research and apply for sports grants (such as Sport England or local council initiatives) to help us invest in new pads, helmets, and training equipment.
Logistics & Infrastructure

Equipment Manager: Oversee the club’s inventory of kit. You’ll manage the distribution of helmets and pads to new players and ensure everything is maintained to safety standards.
Travel Coordinator: Organise transport for away fixtures across the country, ensuring the squad and equipment arrive on time and within budget.
Social Secretary: Build the team culture off the pitch by organising club socials, fundraisers, and the end-of-season awards banquet.
Gameday Manager: Oversee the logistics of home fixtures, ensuring the pitch is dressed and visiting teams are welcomed.
Chain Crew (The ‘Chain Gang’): Get the best seat in the house. Assist the officials by managing the down markers and measurement chains on the sideline.
Stats & Scoring: Keep a precise record of the play-by-play action and update the scoreboard to keep fans informed.
Events & Hospitality: Manage our gate entry, merchandise stall, and refreshment areas to ensure our supporters have a brilliant afternoon.
Assistant Coaches: Work alongside our coordinators to develop position-specific skills (Offence, Defence, or Special Teams).
Team Manager: Act as the vital link between the coaching staff and players, handling registrations and match-day paperwork.
