As game 1 finished we took to the sideline and sent Rob Fodor, the longest tenured Steam player on the game squad, out for the coin toss letting him write the first chapter of our new story, he won the toss and we sent out our Defense to set the tone and they delivered with a 4 and out, including a dropped pick by Mark Laing on 2nd and a sack by Cristian Baldeon on 4th.
The offence didn’t start as well taking a sack, an incompletion that resulted in Mark Laing rolling his ankle, a false start and then conceding a safety to put the Leeds Chargers B up 2-0.
D didn’t skip a beat and helped the O out with back to back passes defended and then an Alex Needham INT in her first-ever game, which swung the momentum in the Steam’s favour and we’d never relinquish it.
With the boost and a short field Andy “Bambi” Smith missed on first down, then evaded the Blitzer on second and popped up a duck that Rob Fodor snagged out of the air for six to put us in front, the 2pt play went to Chris Kilgour and was good on a catch and run, putting the Steam on top 8-2.
The D closed out the half with Alex locking down her side of the field with 2 tackles at the spot of the catch and a pass break up before Chris Kilgour made a leaping INT on 4th and appeared to take it to the house, only for him to be robbed by a phantom flag guarding call.
The second half was all Steam starting with a methodical drive dinking and dunking until 4th and short near halfway, when Bambi found Chris Kilgour on a short route that he took up the sideline for paydirt, stretching the lead to 14-2 with the XP no good.
D came out swinging and refused to give the Chargers any room to breathe with another sack by Cristian, a short completion and then another Alex Interception to give the O the ball back just outside the no run zone.
1 play later and Bambi had found Kilgour in the endzone and linked up again for the 2pt play to extend the lead to 22-2.
Defense gave up a chunk play to a great run play tightroping the sideline before stepping on the chalk, but Alex plucked INT #3 on the following play that sucked the air out of the Leeds outfit and iced the game as the O killed the clock.
Massive props to Leeds Chargers B for a great game played in great spirits.
