A game off gave us chance to rest up, rehydrate and prep for our next game against the Leeds Chargers A, which was a great battle of Defenses, Alex went out as captain after her career game and won the toss to give our Offense chance to keep in rhythm.
With that vote of confidence, the O drove down the field converted a 1st down then Bambi hit Mark Laing with a 25 yard, toe drag swag strike for the score to put Steam up 6-0 with a missed 2pt.
On the ensuing drive, the Defense gave up their first first down, but continued their streak of 5 consecutive drives with an INT, with Bambi picking off the Chargers A QB on the sideline near our own 5.
With 2 minutes left of the half, the Offense was clinical, picking up completion after completion, but came up 4 yards short as time expired.
The Defense came out after the halftime break and started strong again with a 4 and out, including sack number 3 on the day for Cristian.
The next offensive drive started well moving the ball to just short of halfway on first down, but then mental errors snuck in with back to back false starts, putting us on the back foot, then a couple of incompletions left us with 4th and a mile, where Bambi let the pressure get the best of him and put the ball up, only to have it brilliantly picked off by the defender who evaded a tackle to sneak into the endzone. All of a sudden the game that the Steam had appeared to be in control of was tied with an XP away from trailing, but the D stepped up big and kept the Chargers A out of the endzone.
With time ticking away and the momentum swung in favour of Leeds, the O struggled to get anything going and were forced into a 4 and out by great defensive play, but the Chargers A only had time for 2 plays, one got them a few yards short of a 1st and the second one was a shot to the endzone that went over the WR’s head and fell incomplete to end the game 6-6, leaving the Steam to rue the missed opportunities in a game that got away, however, nothing can be taken away from Leeds Chargers A who played an excellent game and fought until the final whistle.
