Game 3 – Darlington Steam vs Gateshead Senators MVP’s (08/08/21)

Special Teams MVP – Liam Teasdale

Liam went out and balled out in his first full run out, if he made a mistake, he came to the sideline, got the feedback and immediately rectified it on the next rep. As a coach, you can’t ask for more from a player than this.

Defensive MVP – Lewis Wigham

Lewis’s contribution to the team caught my eye in game 1 for his effectiveness on the defensive line playing his part in the rotation of players. Stepping up when anyone was tired or injured. Lewis like myself is a short arse however unlike me he is very quiet as such does his job without bringing attention to himself, but this didn’t go unnoticed by myself, Lewis wasn’t available for game 2 his absence was noticeable I was lacking the depth I needed, Game 3 when I spotted Lewis on the sideline, my first words were, missed u last game guarantee that you will have a role to play today….. and looks like a very well played role today it was Lewis. When you play like that you command the field! As such today Lewis you get two honours your well-deserved MVP and football nickname well-played Lewis “tha Chief” Wigham.

Offensive MVP – Mikey “Snowball” Healey

Mr Reliable on Offence, Snowball was our most productive player both running and catching the ball. He consistently showed great speed, power and escapability to make additional yards after contact, making multiple defenders miss on a superb long run from deep in his own half for our only score of the game.

Hes been a brilliant full time addition this season and I look forward to seeing what he continues to do the rest of the year.

Team MVP – Jordan McCabe

A massive team favourite and on Sunday was another example of why. On top of his consistency at centre, anchoring the line, leading the troops in the trenches against an experienced group in the Senators, he performed at an extremely high level.

Not only that, as the defensive line numbers dwindled due to injury, he stepped straight up to help his teammates out and played some defence, with success I may add.

His leadership throughout the whole team is priceless and unquestionable, a very very important member of the roster and I feel he fully deserves his MVP award.
